In September 2019, the Wine Spectator magazine commissioned me to travel to the Northern Rhone, to photograph a legendary French winemaker Jean-Louis Chave for the cover of the November issue.
The cover picture is shot in the Chave's old wine cellar.
Jean-Louis is a humble, hard working man, as is his father — the two still work together.
While given some guidelines I had an enormous amount of creative freedom, free to decide on spot what are the best options to capture. Having spent a few days with the Chaves, I went for many different options.
Another important focus of the assignment was the family.
